Next May 2014 the European elections will be held, and although there is still almost a year left, the different socialist families are outlining their future candidates to head the PSOE list . Until now, the name that appeared in all the pools and that many gave as a 'de facto' candidate is that of Juan Fernando López Aguilar , current president of the Spanish Socialist Delegation in the European Parliament. López Aguilar is the candidate chosen and supported by José Antonio Griñán and by the wing of the party that supported the option of Carme Chacón against Rubalcaba. However, Rubalcaba is willing to fight to place his particular candidate. As El Confidencial Digital has learned from socialist sources, the party's general secretary has already made his choice: Diego López Garrido . The Madrid deputy was one of Zapatero's strong men at the end of his first term - in which he held the position of spokesperson for the socialist group in Congress - and was later entrusted with the Secretary of State for the European Union. López Garrido is considered within the PSOE apparatus as a 'party man', and the political background obtained during the Spanish presidency of the European Union in 2010 is valued .
It was Garrido who organized practically the entire European political agenda of the Government at that time. It is understood, therefore, that he dominates European affairs and has good contacts in Brussels. Until now, Rubalcaba has trusted López Garrido as a mediator Special Database with José Antonio Griñán . Both have maintained a good friendship for years, which is why the current general secretary of the PSOE uses him as an intermediary with the Andalusian president. As explained by the socialist sources consulted by ECD , the election of the candidate will take place during the meeting of the Federal Committee in December of this year or January 2014.As confirmed by El Confidencial Digital from Moncloa sources, Rajoy and Rubalcaba do not plan to call a press conference after their meeting today. Early on Thursday afternoon, just four hours before the meeting, the PSOE had not requested to appear before the media in the Moncloa press room to report on the issues discussed between the two leaders. Therefore, the President of the Government will not appear before journalists either. There will, however, be a photo and a handshake on the stairs to the presidential complex before meeting privately. None of his personal advisors, nor Vice President Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría or any other minister will accompany them to the meeting.
Given the commotion generated by the meeting in La Moncloa between Mariano Rajoy and Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba , socialist sources have explained that the interview is not intended to “make official or sign any agreement.” Staging the agreement before going to Brussels This is the first formal meeting of the two politicians at the Moncloa Palace since May 25 of last year, although both have held discreet meetings and telephone conversations in recent months . This Thursday's meeting will serve to stage the agreement that both closed last week before the European summit on June 27. The agreement signed by both parties goes to Brussels to demand the end of the burdensomeness in the implementation of the plans , the promotion of the Economic and Monetary Union, the end of the fragmentation of the European financial market, the development of investments in the EU, the promotion of youth employment and the increase in funds from the European Investment Bank for small and medium-sized businesses, among others.
